About me

I am an enthusiastic software engineer based in Seattle, with over a decade of experience in the software industry.

I make apps & manage projects

With years of experience in companies large and small, I’ve worked to deliver simple solutions to complicated problems in a user-friendly and scalable way.

My passion is to take complex requirements and combine thoughtful design and clever engineering to produce intuitive solutions that belie the underlying complexity. I enjoy working with a team of passionate individuals to make software that people enjoy.

What I do

Project Management

Bring people together to create products bigger and better than the sum of those individuals' efforts.

Web Development

Create web sites that simplify and streamline the often-fractious online experience.

App Development

Make delightful apps that are easy to use and bring new capabilities to your users' fingertips.

My Experience

2021-2024

Thirty Madison

Staff Software Engineer

I was the lead developer of the Nurx iOS app, an app used by hundreds of thousands of patients to request healthcare services, communicate with their care team, and manage their account. I was solely responsible for several major initiatives, including a Pill & Period Tracker which led to a 10x increase in daily active users in the app, a cross-care module that recommended related services to users and led to an estimated $120k in additional quarterly revenue, and a new process for requesting App Store reviews, which increased our average App Store rating from 3.8 to 4.6 stars.

2021

Bloom Word Search

Developer / Creator

I am the sole developer and creator of Bloom Word Search, a word game in the App Store. This app was developed as a learning exercise for SwiftUI and newer Apple development technologies with which I was previously unfamiliar.

2017-2019

Facebook

Software Engineer

As a part of the News Feed Integrity team, I developed controls for users on the web and mobile platforms to manage the content of their News Feeds. I was personally responsible for work that led to a 15% decrease in the sharing of false news as rated by third party fact-checkers. And as part of the Publisher Transparency team, I developed tools to give publishers insight into quality issues that may affect their performance on the Facebook News Feed.

2012-2017

Symplicity Corporation

Mobile Development Lead

Managing a team of five developers, I acted as both PM and EM for Symplicity’s Careers app, the mobile version of the company’s product used by millions of job-seeking students at over a thousand universities, as well as several other app projects. This role also involved coordinating project timelines with other stakeholders, roadmap planning, interviewing candidates, training, documentation, and development.

2009-2012

Symplicity Corporation

Web Developer

I developed major new features for Symplicity’s judicial affairs system, called Advocate, including an early intervention module to identify students potentially needing assistance, and a reporting module to satisfy federal Clery Act requirements.
